Gdansk, Malbork, Torun, Gniezno - Poland. June 12-16, 2006.

I had several days off in the middle of June, thanks to Corpus Christi celebrations in Poland. I was on the conference at Gdansk and after that decided to use my small vacations to see several interesting cities of northern and central Poland. There are not many pictures of Gdansk on this page, and they are additional to my earlier galleries about this city (August 3-4, 2003 and May 16-20, 2004).
However, the rest of cities I visited for the first time. Malbork (Marienburg), is the former capital of once very powerful Teutonic Order. It is known because of its castle, one of the biggest in the Europe and enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is really huge and complete tour in this Castle can take entire day.
Next city was Torun, where famous Nicolaus Copernicus was born. It is also known for its cakes - “pierniki”. This place is also enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
My last stop before return to Wroclaw was the little town Gniezno, situated in the central Poland. Gniezno was the cradle of Poland and the very first Polish capital (long before Krakow and Warsaw).
