Vacations in the fatherland. Vladivostok, Russia. August 20 - September 4, 2004.

Vladivostok is quite a young city, just about one and a half century old. It was founded as a military outpost of Russian Empire at the Far East of the continent at the 1860. Good geographical location on the Pacific coast and very convenient port resulted in fast development of initially small settlement and Vladivostok was already one of the biggest and most important Russian cities of the Eastern Asia by the beginning of the XX century. It was growing further after October Revolution (1917) and Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Nowadays Vladivostok is the biggest city in the Far East of Russia, civil and military port, final point of Trans-Siberian Railway route (see map), important scientific, cultural, educational and trade center of the region. There are about 600.000 people live in Vladivostok. They call the city Pacific Gates of Russia.
